Today, ClaimScore announced the company is teaming up with Angeion Group to play a critical role in the Katz-Lacabe, et al. v. Oracle America Inc., class action settlement. It is one of the largest privacy class action settlements to date, with Oracle agreeing to pay $115 million to settle allegations that the company collected and sold personal information of millions of people.
Each claim will be reviewed individually using ClaimScore’s proprietary data-driven, AI-based scoring system, that combines machine learning, and complex cloud architecture to weed out fraudulent claims in class action settlements. ClaimScore and Angeion have worked together in numerous other cases, leveraging the combined benefits of Angeion’s frontend validation tool, “AngeionAffirm”, and ClaimScore’s backend, data-driven validation software, to ensure that only legitimate claimants are paid in various class settlements.
Protecting the Rights of Legitimate Claimants
The scale of this class action settlement underscores the importance of utilizing a combination of “frontend” and “backend” approaches to ensure fairness and accuracy of the claims process. With over 80 million people potentially impacted, it is expected to garner a significant number of claims, as well as high interest from various fraudsters looking to take advantage of the process and, at the same time, legitimate class members.
According to the claims notice, “this class action alleges that Oracle improperly captured, compiled, and sold individuals’ online and offline data to third parties without obtaining their consent.” In this case, where plaintiffs allege that Oracle violated privacy laws by creating unauthorized "digital dossiers," it's imperative to ensure that only those genuinely impacted receive compensation. And, the best way to do that is to utilize all tools – both frontend and backend – to get the best results for the class.
How We’re Making a Difference:
- Advanced, Backend Claim Validation / Fraud Detection: We employ cutting-edge fraud detection algorithms and data analytics to identify and flag suspicious claims, ensuring that the settlement funds are distributed only to legitimate claimants.
- Transparency and Accountability: We provide a transparent and accountable system for managing and validating claims, fostering trust and confidence among all stakeholders.
- Back Up Data: We provide back-up data, representing an individual assessment of each claimant, and including a listing of deduction codes and scores, to ensure that all evidentiary questions are answered, and all information supplied is properly substantiated.
As the only backend, data-driven solution in the class action space, ClaimScore seeks to support our administration partners with detailed analysis, findings, and back-up data to assist them in ensuring that only rightful claimants receive their due compensation, while preventing fraudulent claims from diluting the settlement pool.
Stay Tuned for Updates
As the Oracle class action settlement progresses, we'll continue to provide updates on our efforts to assist Angeion in ensuring a fair and just outcome for all involved. ClaimScore remains committed to upholding the integrity of class action settlements and protecting the rights of legitimate claimants.
